Install Fusion Reactor for Resolve
Fusion Reactor is like AEscripts, Nukepedia, and Matchbox—and it is an essential install for anyone who dabbles in VFX or Motion Graphics in DaVinci Resolve.
To install Reactor for DaVinci Resolve Fusion, go to steakunderwater.com - click on - reactor - scroll down to the top post to click and download the Reactor Installer - and simply drag the lua script into your node graph of Resolve Fusion. So now that you know how to install Reactor.
So…. Why do YOU need it? and How would you uninstall it?
Reactor is FREE package manager for open source macros, fuses, and plugins that make our creative lives better. Over 400,000 Fusion and Resolve artists, including myself, use it every week. It’s about 6 years old and is full of tools that don’t exist in the stock install of Resolve. And the great thing about Fusion that the foundation is there for people smarter than the engineers to stretch what can be done out of the box. If you’ve ever bought something from AE scripts, looked at Nukepeida or Matchbox - Reactor is your new Toolkit to explore.
Since I work as a commercial finishing artist and compositor when I’m not teaching Resolve - Some Reactor tools I’ve found so helpful are:
Advanced Edge Extend
Karta VR for insta 360 footage
Checkerboard
But there are so many more. All you have to do to install a specific tool is click the checkbox. And if you decide you don’t want it anymore just uncheck the box.
To Uninstall
Now to fully uninstall reactor - on a mac - sorry I can’t help windows users - Remove the whole reactor folder stored in your mac library here -
Reactor Package (mac library not user)
Macintosh HD/Library/Application Support/Blackmagic Design/DaVinci Resolve/Fusion/Reactor
And then there is also a config file in the USER folder for resolve here -
Config file (in Mac user)
Macintosh HD/users/username/Library/Application Support/Blackmagic Design/DaVinci Resolve/Fusion/Config/Reactor.fu
If you’re running fusion studio standalone - there’s 2 settings that need to be modified to remove reactor, but I’ll just point to the uninstall directions for removing Reactor install paths for that in the description - and chances are if you are running Fusion Studio - you will ALWAYS want to have reactor installed.
One quick side note - is that these directions to install reactor assume you are not running the Mac App Store version of resolve. Just don’t use that version - it complicates permissions and will only make your life more difficult. Get your Resolve install files from the Blackmagic support page.
I’m Chadwick - I honestly love hearing what you’re making or struggling with so please let me know. And because there’s so much more to learn, I’ll see you in the next video!
